Resume Writing Software Versus a Professional Resume Writer - Which is Best? -By Darrell DiZoglio

First, let us consider cost, the better software applications cost $39.99 and the better resume writers average price is $99 to $175. Therefore, the software wins on price alone. On value and service the writers definitely have the advantage because of the considerable time savings, the fact that you do no typing at all, they will make alterations for you afterwards and their finished product is decidedly better. The interesting thing many people forget about software is that you cannot get a refund on it, from anyone that sells it. Maybe this accounts for the eight amazing pages of hard hitting advertising copy on every single box?

Winway Resume Deluxe, Resume Maker Professional and Easy Resume Creator Pro are the biggest sellers. But, none of these resume software products offer a free trial like other software... Maybe because after trying to use it for fifteen minutes you will likely be too frustrated to continue? Mind you, I thought it was a great idea too. I tried it several times over the years. Naturally, since a professional resume writer writes career documents daily for a full time income they stand to benefit the most from the advanced in technology in this area. Consider this, if a good professional writer can turn out three jobs per day versus one and a half he stands to double his profits. The reality of it all is, writing, editing and proofreading are difficult and challenging and will remain so for decades to come.
Naturally resume writers would be thrilled when and if amazing resume creation software became a reality. As it stands now, the 2007 version of Microsoft Word is a far superior tool for everyone. Most people are already familiar with it and MS Word also has a built in super-sized dictionary and thesaurus. This allows for the best possible automated spelling and grammar checking assistance available today. In this writers considerable experience, anything less is a huge downgrade. Consider this, what can a resume program do that MS Word cannot? Can it think like a wordsmith and make hypnotic resumes that seduce employers into calling you for an interview? No. Can it do a better job of proofreading than MS Word or a Writer? No. Can it format a documents style better than a MS Word or a Writer? No. Does it allow you to speak while it types perfectly for you? No.
It is evident that a PC with software program can play chess very well. Still, thinking, writing, editing and proofreading is still a uniquely human profession due to the complexity and creativity involved. The big differences between a basic work history and a high performance resume that earns interviews include: Being tailored to one specific job target and field to maximize the interest of the hiring manager, using keywords to appear in search results, highlighting accomplishments with specific performance metrics and solving the unique challenges and weaknesses of each candidate (job hopping, employment gaps, changing careers or fields, lack of relevant experience, English as a second language etc).
So what exactly does this multiple award winning software do? Well it has some of samples you can copy from. However, if you just needed samples to copy from and some basic instructions those are widely available free. However, there seems to be some confusion, a generic work history is not a modern resume nor is it very effective. Realistically, this career document will have a lasting positive or negative influence on your career. As far as I know, employers are still screening out the 95% that are mediocre or worse, in order to select the top 5% or so for interviews. This is a mission where quality is paramount in writing, editing and proofreading. In the final analysis, top quality resumes and cover letters pay dividends for years and years, so forget the price and invest in your future just like most managers and executives already do today.
I write high performance resumes, cover letters and professional profiles, > 95% of my clients get hired in less than 90 days. Find out why...
