C.exe is a very common
computer infection that can make your life hell. It causes lots of PC errors
and is very difficult to delete. However, it is possible if you know what to
do. Follow the steps in this article and c.exe will be gone before you know it.
What is c.exe?
C.exe is a virus, which
is an executable file that installs itself on your PC. Most of the time it does
so without your knowledge or permission. The file is usually distributed
through unsafe websites, such as illegal download sites.
C.exe is adware - it
gets to your computer and starts displaying unwanted ads. For example, when
your PC is infected with c.exe, you may start hearing weird music, seeing
pop-ups and hearing your PC talk. The ads may be displayed as often as every
two minutes, which is super annoying. In really bad cases you may even have
your search redirected to ad sites.
How to delete c.exe?
Like a lot of other
adware, c.exe is very hard to remove. That's because the file tries to protect
itself from deletion. The first thing you need to do to delete the virus is
stop its process from the Task Manager. Here is how:
1.
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc on
your keyboard to open the Task Manager
2.
Go to the Processes tab
and find the process
3.
Right-click on c.exe and
select End Process
4.
Close the Task Manager
Now that you've stopped
the virus' process, you can delete the actual file that is hidden somewhere on
your PC. To do that, you'll need to find it using Windows Explorer (not
Internet Explorer). Usually this virus is located in the %DOCS_SETTINGS%
subfolder, but sometimes you can find it in the App Data folder. You can use
Windows search to find the file.
If you can't find it
anywhere, check that your PC shows hidden files and folders. Here is how:
1.
Open any folder on your
PC and click on the Organize button
2.
Click Folder and Search
Options
3.
Go to the View tab and
select Show hidden files and folders
4.
Repeat your search for
the virus file
When you've found c.exe,
delete it using the Shift+Delete keyboard combination. This will make sure the
virus truly goes away. When done, restart your PC. Hopefully c.exe will be
deleted.
