How to Fix Windows Errors and Registry Problems by Yourself? - By: PCWatch

Have you ever think of a situation that Windows registry get errors and bring a lot of troubles to you?

I came across such a Windows error this morning.

Usually I don’t shut down my office computer, and there is not many occasion that I have to restart it. But today I restarted it for I think it’s a bit unstable. The unfortunate Windows error happened--computer keyboard didn’t work! I restarted it, entered safe mode, only to find keyboard can be operated for a moment when computer just starts. It didn’t work immediately from the minute that the Windows system began to load.
I log on to my computer via remote control, finding Windows errors in device manager that the keyboard driver was unable to work. When I tried to fix that Windows error, a message popped out saying it cannot be repaired due to invalid registry info.

OK, I figured out the core of problem of Windows error. Windows registry had errors and part of data got lost, so the keyboard driver cannot work.

You may wonder how Windows registry can cause errors on your system. Well, the registry is the repository that stores on your computer all information about system hardware and software configuration, system and network settings, and user profiles. Therefore, each and every PC activity, such as accessing, installing, uninstalling, working on applications, and configuration change, such as modifying display settings, changing audio level, and changing window size, makes an entry or adds a key within the registry.

Normally, an entry or key when no longer used—after you uninstall an application or close a program—are deleted automatically from the registry. However, at times some of these keys are either left behind and leave vacant spaces or registry holes. Over time, a large number of obsolete, redundant, and invalid entries and registry holes accumulate within the registry causing it to grow at an unwarranted rate. Eventually damaging, corrupting, and fragmenting the registry.

Then how to fix Windows errors?

To fix Windows errors, first of all, check if Windows automatic system recovery (ASR) backup exists. ASR is a useful system recovery tool that can help restore computer to earlier status. But it doesn’t work for me. My ASR backup lost together with the registry data.

There is another way to deal with Windows errors. Windows system automatically backs up your registry. All you need to do is to copy the backup files and cover the error files. Then Windows error will be fixed, and your system can be recovered.

Windows registry files are stored under C:WindowsSystem32, while the backup files under C:WindowsSystem32configRegBack. Registry files cannot be replaced under when system is running. So we’d better boot computer using CD or USB OS. The next step is to make the backup files cover the corrupted files under C:WindowsSystem32.

Restart PC, and then Windows error is fixed.

Suppose that Windows error happened on you. How would you solve it? Perhaps the method above might be difficult for newbie, and then is there simple way to solve all Windows errors at once?
